Kazutomo Yamamot’s showroom "The ODDBALL"

  • Organization : Pareidolian
  • Section : Artistic and creative activity in Tokyo
  • Type of Grant Program : Single
  • Art Forms : Music

Outline

This project is a solo exhibition of unpremiered works by composer Kazutomo Yamamoto written solely out of the creative urge to “write the music I want to listen to,” regardless of performing opportunities. With recovering the “distance” between people caused by the coronavirus pandemic as its theme, this project aimed to make the distance between the audience and the players (performers) as equal as possible by gradually breaking down individual preconceptions of the “concert” in terms of venue, production, publicity, etc.

Profile

Pareidolian
An experimental music unit that explores communication/transmission in various forms including concerts, workshops and talks on the theme of encountering what is “different.” Formed by three people in April 2020 on the initiative of art manager Oriyo Kanegae with Kazutomo Yamamoto, a composer who creates new music from the minor discomforts concealed within the everyday, and Koji Masaki, a researcher who designs “learning” occurring in particular environments. With the aim of interacting with artists, researchers, and citizens from diverse communities, generations, and from a wide range of genres, the unit creates, disseminates, and popularizes new music-centric arts and culture.
