Outline

With the chair as the common theme of this production, in addition to the chair being an item of furniture and something to sit on, Okamoto has created works using lives, places, feelings, and memories as seen by way of the chair as the key to his creation. This is a staging of four pieces including a video work.

Profile

Sota Okamoto
Born in Kanagawa Prefecture.
Began classical ballet at the age of 8.
In 2003 he was a trainee on the Agency for Cultural Affair’s domestic training program for upcoming artists.
Graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from the State Ballet School Berlin.
After stints at Mecklenburg State Theatre Schwerin, Noism1, and The Tokyo Ballet, he is now a freelance dancer.
In recent years he has appeared as a dancer in works by Kazuyuki Futami, Yasuyuki Endo, Paul Julius, and others.
Okamoto‘s principal choreography work has included The Tokyo Ballet’s
“Choreographic Project I, Ⅱ,” The 6th Ballet Tradition, Japan Contemporary Dance Company “Show case,” and more.
He presented “Odi Et Amo” at the SAI DANCE FESTIVAL 2023 Competition.
Okamoto’s work has been selected for performance at Contemporary Ballet of Asia (Korea).
