An empty house in Senju becomes art. Time’s shadow flickers.

Away from the hustle and bustle of the shitamachi traditional downtown neighborhoods, the “black house” appears out of nowhere. Built more than fifty years ago, this house with a peculiar feel to it has been an iron works, an izakaya, and a fishing pond business among other things. In this space where time stands still, artist Shinji Ohmaki is shaking up the shadows of time. The faint sign of movement – is it time reviving from oblivion, or time in a different dimension?

Every year in Senju, Ohmaki presents “Memorial Rebirth”, a colorful show of countless soap bubbles released into the air. With this piece however, the ball of solitary light that gradually appears is monotone. Within it, a wavering shadow is hidden….
How will the mysterious worlds presented by the artist in “A Large House” at ICHIHARA Art×Mix and “Where the spiritual shadow descends” at the Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennale unfold in Senju?

*The exhibition held from Saturday, January 30 through Sunday, March 13 2016 is reopened due to popular demand.
