Topping East is looking for record-keeping and PR interns!

Topping East is a participatory art project pursuing the possibilities for making and performing music in city settings. In the East Tokyo area, where tourism around Tokyo Skytree and Shitamachi is constantly evolving, organizers cooperate with musicians and artist to develop community-based projects that range from children’s programs to research projects and involve a variety of local people.
Organizers are looking for interns to help develop these activities by keeping records and handling PR. Through on-site communication with project participants and staff members, interns will start by understanding the sort of photographs and flyers that best convey a project’s appeal, the interests and concerns of the people they reach, and thinking how to communicate a project. This is a vital operational process, giving interns the wide-ranging knowledge and experience needed to convey a message. The variety of the role provides opportunities for all.

Application outline

  • Principle duties
    Documentation/record-keeping (photographs, video, meeting minutes, reports, questionnaire creation and analysis)
    PR (Design and production of flyers and same-day handouts, utilization of website and social media)
    Administrative support for program events (Planning, reception duties, guidance and other on-site operations, setting-up of venues)
  • Negotiable activities (Some work from home, liaison and coordination may be required after hours)
  • Hours
    13:00 — 20:00 to include 3 — 5 office hours once a week
    (The number of working days and hours are flexible, so please feel free to discuss with us)

    None
    *Actual travel expenses reimbursed. Organizers to cover costs of volunteer insurance

    Only a few interns accepted

Requirements

  • 18 years or over (high school students not permitted)
  • People able to work with us for more than 6 months.
  • People able to attend operations meetings once a month.
  • People able to get proactively involved with projects onsite.
  • Basic computer proficiency (Word/Excel/PowerPoint)
  • People able to speak Japanese fluently.

*No art project experience necessary.
