Koganei and I: Secret Expression: “Recall Field Trip” civic tours
Seeking operational support volunteers for event days

  • Art Project

Koganei Artfull Action! (a Koganei City Art Culture Promotion Project) undertakes a variety of projects designed to turn the Koganei neighborhood into a life-enriching place where anyone can enjoy arts and culture.
One of these is the three-year project “Koganei and I: Secret Expression” directed by cultural activist/artist Wataru Asada. This initiative seeks to encourage citizens to notice and cherish discoveries made in daily life, and then to develop these discoveries into some kind of expressive form.

This year organizers are holding a program of “recall field trip” tours themed around Koganei citizens’ memories. Participants will be asked to bring along a cherished item they have always owned, or something they can never bring themselves to throw away. This diverse program of “field trips” around Koganei on the theme of memories includes the “big recall field trip”, a group tour in which participants chat as they stroll around town, and the “recall field trip collection” put together by participants, a selection of on-foot visits to old school routes, and places that symbolize Koganei in people’s minds or that evoke a unique sense of ordinary life in the town, like the “forbidden railway crossing” or “the unmanned shop”.

We are seeking volunteer supporters to help run these “recall field trips” on the day. Help us produce some amazing trips down memory lane which are neither historical sightseeing tours nor walks around the streets.
