Ask the experts: legal considerations for film and video-making

Under the Eichan club project, members mainly in their 70s and above learn about film and video-making from scratch using a digital camera to shoot and edit footage by themselves and enjoy trying their hand at creating a video work.
As part of the project, members were given the opportunity to screen their works, but learnt that more legal considerations than expected need to be taken into account when showing your work in public, such as portrait rights and copyright.
They also realized that while it’s hard to judge for yourself without specialized legal knowledge, there are few opportunities to consult experts directly.
For that reason, we are holding an open round-table discussion with a guest expert who will address various specific legal concerns and questions members had during the making of their video works, using their creations as examples. Nowadays anyone can easily create and publicly release video and film.
