Considering and practicing community with small-scale techniques

The “Practices” program linked to specific action within the Bokuto area is based on awareness gleaned from programs so far under the project “Fantasia! Fantasia!: A community where lifestyles are made real.” One of the “Practices” programs that has started is Geijutsu Kosakujo(“Art Cultivation Site”), the result of a meeting between architect Kengo Sato and Koji Ushiku the executive director of Tamonji Koryu Noen (Tamonji community garden), who were guests at lecture program Learning Lab #01“Communities generated by“monozukuri,” the art of manufacturing”held in February 2019.
With the aim of connecting different communities inside and outside Sumida-ku and using the work of both men as a launch pad, we are planning workshops that will provide participants with the opportunity to learn new skills together through trying their hand at activities like land cultivation, traditional dyeing techniques and DIY, and that will encourage them to appreciate and be interested in the culture around them.
We will hold multiple meetings and research sessions with members in preparation for the workshops next January through February. If you’re interested in the art of manufacturing or community culture, please join Geijutsu Kosakujo and help create projects for the program!
