The Geigeki eyes series introduces young talent set to lead Japanese theater’s next generation. In the Extra edition, talented theater groups from the younger generation showcase their work in the form of a contest. Part 3“Hello,“weak faction”calling: to listen to faint voices” follows on from Part 1,“20 nen antai” (“20 year peace and security”)in 2011, and Part 2 “God save the Queen” in 2013.
Don’t miss this chance to see performances by three promising and compelling theater companies at Metropolitan Theater Tokyo.
About the project
Just like small ripples break spontaneously here and there, changes have occurred almost simultaneously in multiple locations. We’re talking about the evaluation of “weakness.” Over this decade, during which we have been witness to a strong, fast, large-scale and copious unraveling of values that say the winner is right, an awareness of something different has been gaining ground. In theater too, a school of thought has existed for several years which incorporates affirmation of “weakness.” Creative expression that embraces the blank spaces, charm, wisdom and strength of “weakness” instead of seeing it as something to pity has been dubbed the “weak faction,” and from this movement we have chosen three groups. Please keep an eye on their activities and lend an ear to their voices.
