Southeast Asia × Pun-Filled Music. Take part in this international-flavored festival from home!
As part of the “1010 People in Senju in 2020” program, Senju Pun-Filled Music Festival organizers centering on composer Makoto Nomura and citizen members of the Pun Music Festival Study Group have since 2020 been experimenting with the aim of creating new forms of musical expressions online, in collaboration with composers from Thailand, Indonesia, and Malaysia. The culmination of this process, Asia Online Festival of Pun-Filled Music, offering talks, performances of works and workshops, will be held on Sunday, September 12, 2021.
In addition to showcasing new “pun-filled music” composed via remote collaboration, Part 1 will offer multilingual video interviews with three Southeast Asian composers boasting long and unique careers. Part 2 will also feature an impressive line up comprising Anant Narkkong of Thailand, Indonesia’s Memet Chairul Slamet, and Ng Chor Guan from Malaysia, joined by Javanese dance performer Shin Sakuma, Thai artist Yord and his children from the Thai-Cambodian border village of Jigudeku , and ethnic music instrument ensemble Gangsadewa from Indonesia for a riotous multilingual participatory online workshop in Japanese, English, Bahasa Indonesian and Thai. A talk session between Parts 1 and 2 will offer a special stream of Jun Kitazawa, an Indonesia-based artist, in conversation with festival director Makoto Nomura.
We hope to attract a variety of participants with different languages, ideas, religions, and philosophies, making this event a platform for the exploration of fresh types of music. Come join this celebration of Asia in combination with pun-filled music, showcasing an ever-expanding Asian network and circle of pun-filled music.
