Arts Council Tokyo FY2019 Program Line-Up Announced
Arts Council Tokyo is bringing an enhanced range of programs organized by the Council, grant programs, interactive events, and other initiatives to Tokyo this year.
-Enhanced Cultural Program in the Run-up to 2020
The 13 projects selected to anchor the Tokyo Tokyo FESTIVAL through the Public Call for Project Proposals for Tokyo Tokyo FESTIVAL will begin to be implemented in the autumn of 2019. In addition, the Cultural Program will be enhanced in the run-up to 2020 with the addition of initiatives such as the Tokyo Tokyo FESTIVAL Grant Program, which will support a diverse array of artistic activities in four categories, and TOPACO (Tomin Performer’s Corner), which will create opportunities for citizens of the metropolis to present their artistic and cultural activities to a wider audience. Through promotional events and the effective distribution of information, we will raise awareness of the significance of the Tokyo Tokyo FESTIVAL and spread the word about the content of the various projects.
-Launch of New Programs Such as National Theatre Co-production Program
Arts Council Tokyo has undertaken many traditional culture and performing arts programs to date. In FY2019, we will be launching a new initiative: the program of performances co-organized with the National Theatre. This program aims to bring the charm of Japan’s traditional performing arts and culture to a wider audience by organizing performances of traditional arts based on a new perspective that incorporates modern elements.
-Increase in Programs Held in Spring
In previous years, many of Arts Council Tokyo’s programs have been held in autumn, but Tokyo Tokyo FESTIVAL has been designed to peak in spring and summer 2020, so FY2019 will see a large number of programs timed to coincide with this. As well as Roppongi Art Night, which has been held in May since FY2018, Legendary Tamatebako (Treasure Box) – Tama Traditional Culture Festival 2019 and Kagurazaka Street Stage O-edo Tour 2019 (Japanese Traditional Culture Festival) will take place in May. So too will the new National Theatre Co-production Program.
