A day when the noises of neighborhood life and people’s voices sound like “music”

This fall saw the online release of “Onban Senju Vol. 2” under the Senju Town Label project. The album was produced by ten “town recorders (reporters/recorders of local sounds and music) on the theme of the Senju neighborhood. A total of 13 tracks based on recorded sounds like station announcements, the voices of children at play, the sound of bustling back street bars at night and ohayashi festival music instantly conjure up scenes in the mind’s eye. For the “Sounds of Senju Vol. 2” event, participants listen to these tracks as they go around the various “track points,” or places around Senju where the audio snippets were recorded. Enjoy the convergence of sonic and communal experience unique to the time and place as you encounter performers, storytellers and “town recorders” around the Senju neighborhood.

(2) Tour “track points” + making your own impromptu album
For this day only, participants are able to visit the “track points” or locations of the audio sources recorded for “Onban Senju Vol. 2.” Not only can participants hear the unadulterated sounds as recorded on the album at the “track points,” but they can enjoy the live performances, workshops and more scheduled to take place there. Additionally, participants will be presented with a special limited bonus track for the day of the event only, featuring sound recordings made by the “town recorders” around Senju. And because the “Sounds of Senju” kits include a tape recorder, participants can also make their own recordings as they tour the “track points.” Try your hand at creating your own “live album” while you record the sounds of the neighborhood. We can send them to you later on request via mail.
