Senju flourished in the Edo period as the first stopover on the Nikko Kaido highway, as an industrial area prior to World War II and as a center of urban life in the post-war period. In the production of this work “Under Her Skin,” artists Mikami and Endo focused on a variety of “boundaries” found in the Senju area: namely terrain surrounded by the river, landscapes where newly developed residential apartment blocks and old city streets coexist, and the inside and outside of houses. From the history and facts of the area they collected on the basis of a perspective on these “boundaries”, the artists present a “soap opera” installation, with Edo period NAKACHO House as its protagonist.
