On the street and in the world, let’s create a cityscape that has never been seen before
“Street Artist Academy” is held with the aims of producing street performers who will transform the urban environment and provide meaningful and enjoyable experiences to people moving about the city; and supporting performers who wish to enhance the quality of their art.
Looking to the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games and beyond, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government has produced the “Tokyo Branding Strategy (draft)” with a view to establishing a “Tokyo Brand.” Here in Tokyo, a city which is receiving attention from around the world, there is an ever-increasing need for the creation of art that goes outside the theaters–art set outdoors, where people come and go. Of the people creating an artistic environment in the city and offering moving experiences to visitors, street artists are the ones who are the closest and most familiar to us.
We are looking forward to the participation of artists who create excitement on the stage called the street–who think, “I can do it!”

Schedule

Tuesdays and Thursdays from November 12 – December 24 2015, 12:00-16:30

Program

In this program, people who have mastered a certain level of technical skill in various genres will think about what sort of art to present on the street and how to present it, making use of that skill; and research the concepts of what is “moving” and “interesting.” They will also practice physical movement and consider the nature and ideal condition of a body that carries out performances.
