Rimini Protokoll
Concept, Format: Rimini Protokoll (Helgard Haug, Stefan Kaegi, and Daniel Wetzel)
Direction: Daniel Wetzel
The spirited “Rimini Protokoll” art project unit returns to Tokyo after a four-year absence to create a vivid picture of unknown social fabrics and individual lives based on meticulous demographic research.
The cast of 100, assembled according to specific age, gender, and living area criteria to mirror the makeup of Tokyo, will give yes or no answers to a variety of questions in a dramatic format.
The performers are being chosen by “relay” – the first cast member had 24 hours to recruit the next member, who then had 24 hours to recruit the next one, and so on; as of October 22, the cast is up to 86 people.
The “living statistics” and “moving survey” that fill the stage will cast the diversity of contemporary Tokyo and its residents in a clear, unique light.
