What we do

Festival/Tokyo 13

Festival/Tokyo is an international celebration designed to create new value in performing arts and showcase that creativity to the world. In addition to producing works and inviting performers that have names for themselves on the global stage, Festival/Tokyo also features an Emerging Artists Program that aims to support young artists from Japan and other countries in Asia through sponsored performances.

Outdoor performance
“Overdose: Psycho-Catastrophe” by the Indonesia Theatre of Studio
* The performance will be given as scheduled in the event of rain. In the event of stormy weather, however, it will be postponed (to Nov 14) or canceled.
* Information on whether the performance will be given will be posted on the F/T website at 12:00 on the corresponding performance date.

“Yotsuya Zotanshu” + “Yotsuya Kaidan” by Shigeki Nakano and Kaku Nagashima
* The performance will be given as scheduled in the event of rain but canceled in the event of stormy weather. Cancellation information will be posted on the F/T website by 19:00 on the day before the corresponding performance.

Open Program

The Open Program is a new series of festival encounters. It will create ways to meet diverse kinds of people and engage in dialogue, including the Opening Event free for anyone to attend, as well as a large public art installation and the F/T Mob Special series of participatory dance events.

F/T13 Emerging Artists Program

The Emerging Artists Program will select from a total of 137 entry submissions – 74 from Japan and 63 from other Asian countries – to feature four Japanese teams and five teams from Asia (one each from India, Taiwan, China, Korea, and Singapore). The best of the best at creating new value will receive F/T Awards and invitations to take part in next year’s festival.

The Affiliated Program is designed to introduce other productions happening in Tokyo at the same time as the festival, further promoting the Tokyo theatre scene with the help of Tokyo venues and companies.

By giving artists opportunities to soar onto the global stage through meaningful performances, the Emerging Artists Program serves as a platform for performing arts in Asia. The program will also present F/T Awards to deserving works and artists that create new value and provide ongoing support to them through various measures including the invitation to next year’s main program.

Main Program

F/T13 aims to take a renewed look at drama and fiction – the fundamentals of theatre – and explore new modes of contemporary narrative expression. From works that approach the world’s classical texts and myths from modern-day angles to works that capture social transformations in new storytelling formats, the F/T13 Main Program is bursting with a fresh, diverse array of content.

Nandang Aradea, leader of Indonesia Theatre of Studio and F/T13 Participating Artist, has died

It is with great sadness that we announce the news that Nandang Aradea, the leader of Indonesia Theatre of Studio and director of “Overdose: Psycho-Catastrophe”, which is participating in Festival/Tokyo 2013, suddenly passed away on October 12 (Saturday) due to a ruptured cerebral aneurysm. He was 42 years old. We offer our condolences to his family, friends and colleagues.

After discussions with the theatre company, it has been decided to continue with the performances of “Overdose: Psycho-Catastrophe” as planned from November 9th to November 13th.
